The second one is an antoninianus (= 2 denarii) by Gordian III, minted in Rome 241-243: http://numismatics.org/ocre/id/ric....i.95?lang=en

@echiz, any thoughts on whether the first coin is just a modern fake made from plated base metal?

Better pics of the first coin would help. I can't tell if those are deposits/encrustations or as Echiz said a fouree (plated silver copper/bronze core). 1st coin looks like Roman Republic, but I'm not certain.

I can't tell from the photos if the black areas are on top (Hornsilver) or below Fouree?...But I'm leaning towards the latter...
