Dear friends, I want to share the latest purchase of S. Severus Denarius Emesa Mint Victoria. RIC IV 427; RSC 677 The coin is not easy to find.I found only a few speciments in OCRE.http://numismatics.org/ocre/id/ric.....427?lang=en Obverse : IMP CAE L SEP SEV PERT AVG COS II- Head of Septimius Severus, laureate, right. Reverse: VICT AVG, Victory seated left, holding wreath and palm branch.
Doug Smith, formerly active on CCF as @dougsmit, actively collected Emesa mint denarii of Septimius Severus (among many other coins); he has an extensive page on assorted early varieties, but I wasn't able to find yours on it. Not sure whether that means it's rare.
I didn't check the COS I-I category because it was clear that your coin had COS II together, but this does seems to be the closest to your coin that his page has.
@pastpost...That's a very nice looking coin and difficult to find with such clear legends....lovely details on the reverse too...Great find...Congrats...Paul
