It is easier to see the differences by looking at the 9 and 6
with the 9, the loop terminates angled more towards the mint mark on a small date and more towards the 6 on a large date.
With the 6, the top of the 6 ends directly over the curl of the 6 on a small date, with a large date the top extends over and past.

I'm calling myself using those tips, but I need an actual small date here in front of me to compare! Pics are great and helpful, but nothing like using your hand/arm to zoom in and out! So I also see slots in 1970 S for large and small dates, then in '82, I have, "Lg.C. Sm.C. Lg.Z. & Sm Z." I'm guessing, they're referringto small & large date in both zinc and copper? Are those the only 2 other years for small & large dates?

Can you not see how the 9 rises above the 1 on the large date?
