That second one in particular is superb. I think the portrait of Charles III shown by @t360 in the first post dates to the early 1550s (there is a 1/4 teston dated 1554 with the same portrait ...). Those date to something like 1570s, I showed a 1588, and his last portrait coin is thaler dated 1603. 50 years of numismatic portraiture! I will go back a few generations with this gros of Charles II of Lorraine, who reigned from 1390-1431:

Charles I of England and Scotland. Perhaps not the most charming of the portraits of him, however shows a clear link between the Tower portrait, designed by Nicholas Briot for the silver shilling and Van Dyke's painting of the King. This is the Group G bust (Spink 2800, Sharp G1/2). In this particular case still in use after Charles had fled London at the start of the Civil War and Parliament had assumed control of the mint ( (P) privy mark dates it to between 29 May 1643 and 15 Jul 1644). After this both the quality control and artistry at the mint declined noticeably, so of the reign, this is perhaps the most 'life like' portrait we have on the coinage of this particular Charlie!

Charles of Lorraine (1567-1607, aka Karl von Lothringen) was Bishop of Metz and Strasbourg and the second son of Duke Charles III and Claude de France, daughter of King Henry II. Here are two undated 1/4 thalers (testons) of Charles of Lorraine from 1603-05. The lower one has a mint mark "S" at 12 o'clock for Saverne.
