I have a question regarding the 2001 series $10 note with the BER prefix. There were 7.2 million printed in 2003 and 1.4 million printed in 2004. What happened to all the 2003 notes? They definitely seem to be more scarce than the 2004 version, so I don't think it is a price guide issue. It just seems weird that with a printing of 7.2 million that they would end up being that hard to find.

- Good question. I wish I knew! The thing collectors have to keep in mind is that we never know how many they produce (even though they give these numbers). We also don't know how many they re-use or destroy. We just know that few were issued (released) due to the SNDB kept by the CPMF:

And that the majority of other prefixes were not released such as the BEP, BEL, BET & $5 2004 HOH prefixes. It appears to have happened again, with the polymer, with the Macklem-Carney FTH $10, AMG $50 plus other prefixes) What actually happens to the notes, nobody but the printers know for sure.

Here's another BER replacement (from 2004) which I forgot to add to this thread. I have never been a big fan of "insert" replacements. I bought this one much later after a collector offered to sell it to me for about 50% of BV so I just caved b/c it is also a year change-over:

That's a great question & one which many dealers/veteran collectors alike are pondering. It is likely that they printed a certain number of reams slated for that prefix but then they (the sheets waiting to be serial numbered) were slated for another prefix. Only a few reams likely got printed or several reams were destroyed & shredded. I doubt that they were printed & then destroyed & more likely re-assigned to another prefix/run.

{Sorry I didn't see your question until now).

I have read parts of this thread numerous times over the past few years. It contains a wealth of information for anyone interested in collecting the Journey series of banknotes. I recently had opportunity to pickup a few of the ones I am missing.
First off is this 2001 BEK replacement note (printed in 2003) with the Jenkins Dodge signature. I am still looking for the regular BEK note.

Next is the 2001 Knight Dodge FEE note (printed in 2001) which had a short run of 480,000.

Lastly, I also managed to acquire a 2001 Jenkins Dodge BEP note (printed in 2003). This one might turn out to be a bit of a sleeper in terms of scarcity, even though there were 10,000,000 printed. I guess time will tell.

I was at the Calgary Coin Show this weekend and picked up a few banknotes.
The first two are sequential 2001 Jenkins Dodge notes (printed in 2003) with the BEP prefix.

I also managed to snag a 2001 Knight Thiessen note (printed in 2000) with the FDY prefix.

Only 15 away from the one you posted before. It appears you've found the HOLY BEP connection!
