Following up on the Handsome Henrys and Charming Charlies (thank you, @t360!), now it is time for your Lovely Louis and Lustrous Ludwigs! Many are the variants of this old German name: Chlodwig, Ludwig, Ludvig, Lodewijk, Ludovic, Ludovicus, Lodovico, Luigi, Louis, Luis, Lewis - and more - and not forgetting the females: Louise, Luisa, etc. Any coin you have featuring a person with this name, please post it here for us to see! To get the ball rolling, here is one of my favorites, the lustrous sun king himself. Louis XIV, France 1710, 1 ecu, Lyon (D).

That is a coin with an interesting history, @NumisRob. One of the few French coins minted in England. And that is truly a Lovely Louis, @TobyJ! Great contributions! Another Louis XIV from me, this one much earlier. Louis XIV had a long reign, from 1643 to 1715. The king is only 5 years old on this portrait. Louis XIV, France 1644, louis d'or, Paris (A).

Louis XVI had a very regal look, I think we should bring that hairstyle and ponytail tie back in fashion. Majestic. ---- Here is a Louis XIII gold 8 Louis d'Or 1640-A Paris Mint. One of only four specimens currently certified across NGC and PCGS combined, this particular specimen sold recently for $300,000. Another Louis with a great hairstyle! Also, If you have read The Count of Monte Cristo (My favourite book of all time) Then you will recognise this as the 'gold Louis' coins that the main character owns endless amounts of, and at the time the book is set each coin would probably be more than a year or twos wages for a pedestrian (I'm guessing, probably many many years wages.)

Louis XV silver ecu, 1742 Pau Mint: Louis XV was the great-grandson of Louis XIV, whom he succeeded at the age of 5 in 1714. He died in 1774. Although nicknamed 'Louis le Bien-Aime' (the well-beloved) his ineffectual rule and fiscal irresponsibility paved the way for the decline of the French monarchy that led to the Revolution in 1789.
