1817-Q French 2 Francs of King Louis XVI:
Post-Your-Lovely-Louis-And-Lustrous-Ludwigs!
'Q' is a mintmark you don't see that often - it's from the Mint at Perpignan, on the Mediterranean Coast not far from the Spanish border.

Thanks t360 and Errers and Varietys!

Here's a worn 1793-D (Lyon Mint) 12 deniers of King Louis XVI, who was guillotined that year!

I'm pretty worn looking myself. Nothing wrong with that. I believe for these12D coins, the pellet after the D means it was issued by the Dijon mint.

nice addition Rob - good looking (albeit worn) coin

So let me get this straight - first they honor him and get him portrayed on a circulating coin Then chop off his head..

Worn, but interesting with one of the last coins with the deposed and decapitated king!

Yes, life during the years of the revolution was hazardous - honored one day, accused of treason the next, in line for the guillotine the third. Happened to many more than the king.

The republic was proclaimed - and the king deposed - in September 1792. It took quite a while to decide on what new coins should look like, and time to design and make the dies. Still, it is interesting that royal coins were minted for the most part of 1793, long after Louis XVI had been decapitated in January 1793.

Lovely! I've got one too, but let me show another one: In 1720, a special coin was minted, in pure silver and with the fixed denomination of 1 livre tournois. It was part of an intended coinage reform, which was never implemented in its remaining parts.

Louis XV, 1 livre tournois, 1720.
