Do I see the early stages of a die crack below Lincolns bust to the rim at 5:00? That would be an indicator of genuine for at least one known die.

[quote]Unslabbed rare coins are unslabbed for a reason! Cleaning, repairs, added mintmarks, damage, just to name a few. Good chance this coin has already been submitted a few times over the years.[quote]
That's simply not true. #1- There are literally hundreds of "billions", more likely trillions of coins floating around. The grading services, over the years, have barely scratched the surface when it comes to the number of coins graded. You are partially correct on one level though when you say, "Unslabbed rare coins are unslabbed for a reason!" Yes, THERE ARE JUST TOO darn MANY. #2- I have many "rare" coins that have been in my possession long before grading companies were "chique". Going all the way back to the late 50"s. My very 1st coin was/is an unc 1909SVDB,, still have that very coin. #3- I have thousands of coins. Nearly ALL are raw. I prefer them that way, always have and I'm sure I'm not alone.

Thanks for the added pics.
As for slabs, like them or not, they're virtually a must-have for getting top dollar for almost any coin that's rare or even scarce.

Quote: There are literally hundreds of "billions", more likely trillions of coins floating around. That may be true, but the issue is slabbing rare and heavily counterfeited coins, not all coins. I agree that these days a problem-free, high grade 14-D or 1909-S-VDB would need to be slabbed to maximize selling price.

The MM looks good to me but it looks to have been cleaned.

It's a genuine die#4 according to the provided mintmark positions.
Notice the slight tilt? Notice how it lines up with the date?

This looks good to me, but I'm no expert on counterfeits. I certainly wouldn't pay a grand for a raw one though.
