I received many ancient coins in a local auction that were included in a lot. I did not know they were in the lot. I know nothing about ancient coins and will be selling them on ebay. I would appreciate your feedback on the listings. I have one on now and will be listing more this next week. I have included one sample photo but my camera is not good at macro. They are all marked and I am selling them accordingly. Kind Regards, Deborah Edited by VestigeWolf 03/27/2022 6:11 pm

Well that miracle plant that went extinct, (was the story Nero paid for the final bunch it's weight in Gold I recall?) people want anything with that plant. Apparently women could use it for an abortion pill as well I recall. So the coin may not be great condition wise but it depends on what each coin is. Depends on what you want per envelope how you list them. Shipping can kill you and fees if a coin sells for $5 for example. So some go in groups of certain themes on ebay. Do you think I should post them here before I list them since I have no idea of value? Perhaps I could sell them here instead?

Up to you. You may not like my advice as I put everything up at $1 and no reserve. But I list to get about at least $30 per envelope and I know the coins so I know what to group. Do you have months to wait for a buyer you will do better. I do everything at 5 days lately so you could lose a lot if you do what I do. So are you OK waiting and relisting a lot? Then if you post a bunch of coins in a single photo we could let you know what is worth listing alone at least and what are just common in a common condition. Click on my name and see how I photograph by the way, you can do a bit better with the close photos and have less reflection and glare.

Thanks. I have time to wait as needed. I don't want to give them away. But how do I know what to start them at? I just happen to find info about the one I listed and one sold for 50+ some time ago. I will work on my photos but they are to big for posting here. I will keeep plugging away and post them here first. Thank you so much for your time.

For a coin like that, have the camera set on high resolution, put the coin on top of some back ground you can hold in the air, have the coin between two end table lamps and above all hold the camera about a foot and a half high away from the coin. With a steady hand, once the camera focuses, move between the two lamps until the glare goes away and snap the photo. A few as one will be blurry. Then open in photo shop, crop it, save at a higher resolution, and you will have the "better in hand" look people say when they get coins in the mail and the photos were bad. Only way to remove the glare is to not have it in the first place and a close camera is hopeless with shellac or sealant on the coin.

Will give it a try tomorrow and post something here if it works. Thanks again. Have a good evening.

If these are relatively common coins, you should be able to get an idea of the value by doing a search on ebay, being sure to click the button for "Sold Items" so you only see ones that have actually sold recently. I prefer selling by "Buy It Now" on ebay, and price my coins based on other recent sales (but I am selling "modern" coins). I think @louisville moves a lot more coins, so I can understand his preference for auctions where I suspect everything sells.

Yes, thankyou. I always look at the items sold for a real idea of value. But there are differences in appearances so I may just post as is and see what happens. No examples had a hole in the center like this one. Please tell me how these photos look. I can't seem to make the pictures small enough with my camera to allow uploading to this site. I took these with my computer microscope. I'll keep plugging away. Thanks again. This one states Constans AE4 337-350AD O:Bust R:2 Victories facing each other holding wreath, CSIS, Siscia mint.
