Hello All, I am Troy and new to the forum. Years ago when I worked at a movie theatre, at the end of the day I was counting my cash and one bill stuck out from the rest, and it was this $5 note. It was strange because the little 5 in the top left corner wasnt blue like all the other bills. Upon closer inspection it looks as though the silver foil is on top of the 5 ( I can see the outline/indent of the 5 under it) and the coat of arms at the bottom? I am not a big collector and I'm not sure if this has been seen before or what exactly has happened to this bill but any insight would be greatly appreciated!! - Troy

to the CCF it is possible that the 5 and shield have been chemically removed from the security bar. It would be pretty hard to prove that it happened at the BAB Correct typo

These Journey series notes with the security strips were all the same design, find another poor condition example and try to duplicate this by using acetone or an ink eraser and welcome !

Well thanks for all the warm welcomes! And I can see the point that it could have been chemically removed (though seems like a lot of work for a $5 circulated bill? People would do that? Your all the experts so I'll take your word for it ) But wouldn't the edges of the coat of arms be removed as well? I can still see them and when I look really close at the bill, it honestly looks like its under the strip. Hard to prove one way or the other for sure. I'm guessing there hasn't been any proven examples like this that are genuwine? Thanks for all the input though, seems like a nice community of folks here

- I was going to remain silent on this one b/c @JimmyD identified it as post printing damage & there was nothing more to add. Quote: And I can see the point that it could have been chemically removed (though seems like a lot of work for a $5 circulated bill? People would do that? Your all the experts so I'll take your word for it I don't think the altered $5.00 was created on purpose. Sometimes people hold their cash while filling up, or after they've applied nail polish remover, etc. All sorts of chemicals (solvents/cleaners) are used daily & can easily remove inks from notes (or leave weird & wonderful artefacts that are posted on the forums). Sometimes all it takes is one drop on the note. Whether it was done on purpose (or accidentally) is hard to say. Once you've seen a few of these (like teller's stamps) they become easier to identify. Interesting post though & to the community!

You have a very unique error banknote. I have seen one other 5 dollar note with the same error a quite a few years ago. I am sure that it has disappeared into someone collection never to be seen again.
The hologram security strip has a paper backing that is removed and then heat pressed on to the sheet of notes. This backing has not been removed on your note.
When the ink for the 5 and the coat of arms was applied it did not stick properly.
You should send it in for grading which will confirm that the note is genuine. The price for errors has gone up a lot in the past 2 years.

Thank you everyone for your input, I really do appreciate it & And ShareBear, there's so few of the Journey paper bills left out in circulation, I hadn't even realized about the paper backing, I don't have any other Journey's to compare it with as I'm not a big collector.yet But I always felt there was something more with this bill. I remember it stuck out like a sore thumb from all the rest of the bills I was counting in my cash register around 15 years ago hah! I will definently look into getting it graded, thank you!

Just because it appears on ebay doesn't make it an error. There are all kinds of currency and coins that are damaged that people try to sell as errors hoping that some less knowledgeable person will buy it.

Never said that because it appeared for sale on ebay that made it an error. I have already stated the reasoning behind it in my previous post. In my opinion SirJohnA's banknote, the banknote for sale on ebay, and the one that I saw a few years ago are all legit errors on the holographic strip.

Wow!!! Well thank you for the update ShareBear!!
My bill is sitting on a small display shelf beside my TV, and I suppose it will remain there for years to come. Perhaps one day I will look at selling it, or maybe never, who knows!! Thanks again :)
