It came with a 16MB and I was still using the 16MB. After doing some research I've learnt that its a problem with the canon cameras.

yes it seems it is a major problem with allot of Cannon cameras not just the S2 IS, I did a search and there is bookoo's of complaints about it but can't quite figure out what is causing it. When you say you lost the pictures thats on the card I don't quite understand, have you tried to put the card in a card reader and the card just will not read even in a card reader? if thats the case seems to be a card problem not a camera problem and if that is not the case then the pictures that are on the card are still there and if you use some sort of card reader then you can get your pictures off of it

Rick, what is the coin of the Whitetail? Almost went to the closet to get out my Pearson. That coin or medal is awesome.

Hi stmpcol
These were offered by North America Hunting club,, there was a complete Super Slam series this is the only one I bought.
They are One Troy ounce .999 fine Silver.
I do have the whole Bronze series though ,, The Silver was just way too expensive !

Rick, I checked Minolta DiMageZ2, while its seems to be a great camera, its rather expensive for me. I can't afford that much at this time.
Bryan, I managed to save a couple of the photos thanks to the card reader but still lost a few.
We're always used Sony cameras and had very good experience. So I think I'll stick to Sony. But not many seem to use Sony for coin pics or I haven't heard anyone mentioning anything. I thought the Cybershot DSC-W50 seems good. 5MP, 3X Optical zoom, Macro distance is 6cm, 2.5 LCD.
I would love a swivel LCD and a large zoom but its not necessary.

I came across Panasonic LZ5 which has 6X Optical zoom with IS, 2.5 LCD and 6 MP. Its available for around $200. Only problem is I can't seem to find its Macro level.

It's spec'd as having a 5cm Macro focal length, which should be more than enough for good coin photography with 6MP in hand. Here's a review from a reputable source: http://www.steves-digicams.com/2006...ews/lz5.html

Thanks SuperDave. Panasonic seems as good as Sony. Only problem is Beachcamera charges 10% re-stocking fee in you want a refund but if you exchange they only chare 5% AND this model is not available at Beachcamera.

I am glad to see the Canon S2IS getting some nods as one of the best cameras to use. I love the clarity I get with the super macro. Lighting is an issue for me. Any suggestions on settings and lighting would be great?

Please see this post https://goccf.com/t/8045 . It looks like a great deal of everything one would need to know to start taking great coin photos with the S2. This looks like a good product for lighting http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-Photo-Studi...00_W0QQitemZ250055387538QQihZ015QQcategoryZ30087QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

If you would change from Super macro to marco and get the camera about 6" to 12" away from the coin using a copy stand or tripod and use your zoom. This way you could have some room to get the lights on the coin. Any lights would do desk lamps, otts, etc....

Here are two more shots from my Panasonic FZ7. Trying to get my lighting down and learn more on taking Photos of different type coins. These shots were took at the kitchen table under two "Reveal" lights and a small tripod. I used the 2 second timer to snap shutter. The coin is really this color. Frank Iso: 80 White Balance: Tungsten FStop: 2.8 Shutter: 1/30 sec. Metering Mode: Spot
