livingwater Pillar of the Community United States 2237 Posts	Posted 12/14/2023 1:39 pm Not specifically a flag but I have some Roman coins with military standards similar to flags. Some had a vexillum, a cloth banner with references to the emperor, legion, etc. Here is my AE of Constantine I, first Christian emperor, 15mm, 1.64 grams, Arles, RIC VII 394. It has two soldiers, between is a military standard with XP, Greek letters Chi-Rho symbol representing Christ. Constantine I coins with Ch-Rho are scarce, some rare. Later emperors also used the Chi-Rho symbol on their coins and are usually more common. On wikipedia for vexillum is a pic of a rare Roman vexillum that has survived.
