I previously started a thread for coins/medals/tokens with a quill (feather) used for writing (Post Your Coin Or Medal With A Quill/Quill Pen). I thought I'd go in a different direction for this thread and call for coins/medals/tokens with a feather that isn't being used as a writing instrument.

Note: Coins with Birds have their own thread and aren't the target for this thread even though the have feathers. If you have a piece with a bird, please post it in the other thread.

A number of US coins featuring a non-pen feather quickly come to mind, but I also know there are a good number of coins from around the world that fit the bill.

I'll kick things off with a coin from the modern US commemorative series: the 2004 Lewis & Clark Bicentennial Silver Dollar.

2004 Lewis & Clark Bicentennial Silver Dollar

The 2004 Lewis and Clark Bicentennial Silver Dollar was issued to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the 1804-06 expedition that vastly improved the understanding of the geography of the land included in the Louisiana Territory (purchased from France in 1803).

On the reverse is seen a pair of feathers meant to represent the Native Americans encountered by Lewis and Clark during their journey, along with the reverse design of the "Indian Peace Medal" used during Thomas Jefferson's administration. The original silver medals were given to Native American chiefs and other important representatives by those representing the US Government as a token of friendship and peace.

1921 Missouri Statehood Centennial

On its obverse is a portrait of frontiersman Daniel Boone, while the reverse depicts a standing Boone in discussion with a Native American who is depicted wearing a feathered headdress.

The 1921 Missouri Statehood Centennial Half Dollar was issued to help mark the 100th anniversary of Missouri being admitted to the Union as the 24th State. The 24 stars behind the two figures on the reverse are symbolic of Missouri status as the 24th state. Shown is the "2*4" variety of the coin with "2*4" seen on the obverse to the left of Boone's portrait.

1926-39 Oregon Trail Memorial

The obverse of the coin depicts a family in a Conestoga wagon making its way west for a new life. The reverse depicts a symbolic Native American looking east with an outstretched arm and upward extended hand seeming to indicate "Stop!" to approaching settlers. The Native American is depicted wearing a feathered headdress.

It is interesting to note that while the wagon side is officially considered the obverse (by the US Mint), it is the standing Native American side that is typically viewed as the obverse by today's collectors (and third-party grading companies!).

@cptbilly: I had been wondering when the US Indian Head/Buffalo/Bison nickel was going to make an appearance. Thanks for posting!

Now we wait for an Indian Head cent and $5 and $10 gold Indian Head coins...

1935-39 Arkansas Statehood Centennial

The coin's reverse (per the US Mint) presents the conjoined figures of Miss Liberty and a Native American Chief. Liberty is depicted wearing a Phrygian cap emblazoned with "LIBERTY" to ensure her identification would be beyond question. The rendering is said to be based on a young woman circa 1936. The Native American chief, in full feather headdress, is unnamed but sometimes referred to as a member of the Quapaw Nation.

(Per the US Mint, the official obverse of the Arkansas Statehood Centennial half dollar is the side with the eagle as it features the date/year when the coin was struck.)
