For those wishing to know how it was identified, here's the original thread: https://goccf.com/t/40862&whichpage=2The coin had a very odd date placement. No known-good examples with a similar date could be found. Further research turned up a number of known fakes with the same date placement.

I asked the guy a question about a picture of the back and for clearer pictures This is the reply I got "i sent the picture of the back...im not going to clean this coin.......what you see is what you buy.thanks and hope you like looking at he back...thank you" No picture was attached. I also noticed he has two different locations. Ohio and West Virginia. I have been doing E-bay for 10 years now. I used to sell small brass cannons and my competition would report me for selling "projectile firing devices" (These cannon fired blank charges) And my auctions would get pulled. And I came close to losing my selling priveleges. Enough reports while the auction is in progress will shut him down

Quote:Two nights ago, about 2 in the morning, I spotted THIS post >>> 120395266976Same coin, same holder, same price and sold. Wow, that person has a lot of nerve. Be sure to keep offline copies of the auctions (.PDF files, hard copy printouts, or whatever) so when the auctions disappear you still have something to hang your hat on.

I have been researching this seller. looking at his past sales present ones and even what he buys. When they used to have the buyer's screenames I was good at catching "shills". He has been selling for 2 years. I am surprised he lasted so long. He specializes in antique collectibles like photographs, cards and coins all of these items I can pretty much guess are fake. Wile looking at the Morgans I noticed his photos are getting blurry. But it seems the toning and wear on these coins a very close to identical. He is getting greedy and careless and presently has of all things up for auction an 1895P Morgan Item number: 120396771063 With a Buy it now for $5000. With some rather clear pictures at that

Responding to replies here. Morgans dad....I don't know how to send a private message regarding my email addy. Yes, over the past couple of months, I've kept, copied and bookmarked info on this person. I believe he has another ebay user name also as some items appear similar, as well as same types of neg feedback, but I can't confirm that. After 3 months of complaining and writing ebayand Paypal, this person I've been writing about on my other "FAKE MORGAN" posts finally did himself in, as noted by a previous member post here.. by listing and selling these 2 "Morgans".......... ebay 120396060299 and 110367754808, then refused 2 recent requests for refunds and has moved, (seller states). I'm told, on the phone with ebay this morning that he is now restricted from future sales. Unfortunately, several Ebayers already lost a lot of money buying his fakes. Note to Ebayers returning mdse for refunds..USE TRACKING info, not as I did..sent regular mail. *SIDE note* ..my profile, for whatever reason, states my age as 13(?) I'm 67,lol, and I'm trying to figure out how to edit it.

Good luck with this problem. I bid on something a month ago and when the auction was over I paid with paypal, about ten minutes later ebay sends me a email telling me they pulled this guys items right after it was over, yes, right after I paid. I appealed and now one month later, still waiting. now, last saturday I went to my local flemart and ran across this guy that had a mall plastic box with about ten fake morgans in it. he was getting $2.00 each and they were listed as fake. i bought one just to have, 1902 cc. side by side with a real morgan one can see the difference, but by it's self it's kind of hard. but like I said above, good luck with ebay and paypal.

Interesting thread, the guy still has no ebay sales listed, perhaps he was "temporarily suspended" which is a ebay cop-out, a slap on the wrist, then it's back to business as usual. I still buy on ebay, but since the advent of Chinese counterfeits, I'm very, very, particular. Anything important will be purchased certified only (and not in a Chinese made slab!). ebay has lost alot of business because of it's own actions, and will be losing alot more because of their lack of enforcing their own safty policies. If they aren't careful, they will become "just another online auction" ~ Jim

Just to let everyone know, the U.S. Secret Service not only protects our national leaders, they also track down and prosecute counterfeiters! I have reported a ebay seller who sold me a bogus 1922 No D Lincoln Cent. When I got it, it had very sharp edges and would balance on its edge. No coin from that time that was circulated would do that! And the color didn't match my other 1922 cents. (Not even close...). The Secret Service agent was very interested in this guy. And since I had his name and return address, it was particularly sweet for me!

One additonal post on this subject: ebay may be bad on these counterfeiters (I do think they are trying...) but ePier.com is HORRIBLE! There are terrible counterfeiters all over that site and ePier will do nothing about them.

I will still browse and if something looks like it's worth my time, I'll bid. If I ran ebay, these sellers would be history. No second chances. If they sneak back in under some other name, they will slip up eventually.
