...knowledge sharing that you have benefited us, and future collectors...
My primary purpose behind creating these indices is to make it easier for a collector with an interest in a particular coin to find engaging information about it in areas of CCF where they might not think to look. The Commems Collection list that Bobby created is a great tool - and I'm very grateful - but it can't capture everything.
I've drafted many posts that either aren't on the list because they are included in other threads or because they don't make it obvious (by their group/category-focused title) that a specific coin is discussed within..
Coins get lost in the "Post Your..." gallery threads, as, over time, the threads can get very long and can get bogged down by multiple postings of the same coin or coin design. It would take a very dedicated collector to regularly scroll through dozens of pages hoping that a particular coin was presented along with useful information about it.
When I was creating the many posts I added to the gallery threads, I created a master file in which I logged the page number within each thread for each coin I posted. So, for me, it's fairly easy to track down a given coin, but for a collector without such a guide, I imagine it has the potential to be a time-consuming and frustrating journey.
Within the Gallery threads, I have posted narrative content and images that I haven't presented here within the US Commemoratives threads. IMHO, many of them are worth taking a minute to check out. Some are brief and do not present anything new, but others have solid content that can add to a collector's knowledge and enjoyment of the series.
My plan is to create a "Design Discussions" index for each coin type within the classic commemorative coin series - I'm about halfway there!. (I hope folks find them of some value.)
