Is the copper toning on the reverses normal? unfortunately  yes that toning is normal, there is another white version which the doesn't have that aging problem, but its more expensive. Still its a nice gift, as many of the years are low mintage coins, for the circulating versions.

I'm not a huge fan of modern Australian coins (sacrilegious I know), but IMO that's a beauty Bryan! Nice acquisition. 
The Ox moves slowly, but the Earth is patient.

 Sorry but it doesn't do it for me ... it's looks more like an eagle flying high over the Rockies than a Kookaburra in the Australian bush! Also I'm pretty sure that Kookaburra's don't carry snakes in their claws but rather they use their beak to pick up their prey before beating it against a tree or rock to kill it.
