Man, have I missed a bunch in the last 6 editions! Probably because I don't have many coins before 1750... Not to mention I wasn't even on CCF before 2021...
And not too many more recent coins either...

But I do have an Indian rupee from 2013!

All this time and we are back just 10 years

Australia had issued commemorative circulating coins for years on mostly 20c, 50c and $1 coins, but 2012 would see the $2 coin used for a change. A coin called the Red Poppy which was part of upcoming Anzac centenary was issued in 2 versions.

The coin was issued as a plain one and also a coloured version showing the Poppy made red. 2 million were minted of the plain, but just 500,000 of the red coloured version. The coin was a hit and became scarce. Today along with the 2013 Diamond Jubilee coin, its amongst the most scarce of all modern Australian circulation pieces. Privy mark versions of just a few tens of thousands are worth almost thousands themselves.

Sadly it would kick start a revolution of coloured $2 coins that has grown to 10 - 20 per year now and seems to get more prolific than Prince album releases.

More ordinary 2012 coins included these

5c, 10c and 20c.

Only 1 coin was issued for circulation in New Zealand, the tiny 10 cent piece.

Fiji however released a whole range of new coins without the Queen, animals took the place of Her Majesty on the Obverse.

The new set of 6 (5 are shown here) used the same designs as the 2009 stainless steel coins, but each had a new animal obverse.

50c Maori wrasse (Grouper fish with huge lips)

$1 Fijian banded Iguana (Vokai)

And the new $2 coin showing a fish eagle. Prior to 2012, a $2 note had been used and this was the first issue of this denomination as a coin.

2014 coin shown, but the original 2012 coin below was withdrawn as its size and shape was too close to the $1 coin, and the edge was also changed from 11 sided to Spanish flower.

The original coins as you can see have corroded badly as cheap brass plated steel does not do well in tropical climates.

Sorry for this long blabby post - but this was an important year for Fijian coins.
