2004 was a good year in New Zealand. All of the coins except $2 were issued in 2004. I am missing the 50 cent and the 5 cent was scarce until a few million of them were discovered a few years later (I don't have one). Numbers of the 20c and 50c issued in 2004 were very high and these sustained us until the 2006 changeover. 2005 mintages of these coins as you saw were garnishes. 2004 was the last year of the 5 cent coin and large mintage of 10 cent coins. It was in 2004, that it was announced that 5 cent coins would be phased out and other cent denominations would be "redesigned". Australia issued all denominations in 2004 and here I show the 3 lowest. The 20c had two types Large Head and Small Head. The Small head has a rounded A in Australia and is very common (71.6 million), the large head intended for sets only is very scarce and only 400k were minted. The A in Australia is pointed.

Strangely for me, I also have a 2004 American Uncirculated set, these come in envelopes and you get 2 complete sets, one from Philly and one from Denver! As 80% of you are American I won't explain in much depth! I have used the Philly coins here. There was 2 nickels that year for the 2004 Lewis and Clark celebration and the Sacagawea dollar was still being minted! Obverses The State Quarters for that year were Michigan, Florida, Texas, Iowa and Wisconsin. I have only shown this side as the date is on the Reverse of these coins and we have all seen Washington many times. Those are my Denver ones. I think this set was great value as you got 22 coins in total!

2003 had the usual crop of UK commemorative coins, starting with a 50p commemorating the Women's Suffrage Movement: A circulating £2 coin celebrated the discovery of DNA: This rather unnecessary and weird £5 coin commemorated the 50th anniversary of the Queen's coronation (they'd already done the Jubilee the year before!): Isle of Man 20 pence: Gibraltar 2 pounds:

Oh well, we should enjoy our commems while they last, I find the commem craze really only got into full gear in the 1990s. The Cook Islands had a $5 coin in 2003, we did not and they use our dollar. They still have it today, although its smaller. This thing was the size of an Aussie 50 cent piece. The $2 coin was a lot smaller, but just as weird! NZ issued plenty of coins in 2003 and it was the last jumbo year for the 5 cent coin, before it became history. You could not even buy a piece of bubblegum (The candy, not modern Australian coins ) for it 2003! All are shown except the 50 cents, no 20 cents was issued in 2003.
