Like Britain, Australia also went bananas with the commems in 2003 and there were additional NCLT ones too. The 20c and 50c celebrate volunteers in the community - the 20c has 16 faces on it (All very Caucasian too) and really a plain coin is not a good medium for this, especially when it starts to wear and in 30 years time you get 16 pimple like spots on the coin! The $1 celebrates women's suffrage. It's a better design. Same coins with standard $2, 10c, and 5c. In 2003 none of these coins were used for commemorating anything.

Recent events in the UK have made me almost forget about this. Denmark 20 Kroner - Her Majesty Queen Margarethe is now Europe's oldest reigning Queen! She celebrates 50 years on the throne this year. I think Beatrix is a couple of years older (1938 vs 1940) but she abdicated in 2012 Chile 500 pesos Canada $2 coin with Her Majesty Sweden 1 Kronor - featuring another venerable European monarch - not sure when he became king, but long enough for Abba to write Dancing Queen in 1976 about his Queen! Indonesia 200 and 500 Rupiah, aluminium showing birds. These replaced brass coins and were the highest face value coin at the time. 500 rupiah then was about 12 cents. Its now 5 cents. That is my 2003! See you in 2002!

I thought I'd lost a day (year) but just a typo by muddler. 2002 QEII Accession Golden Jubilee 50c This PNC has some nice stamps of Elizabeth II so I'd thought I'd post the whole thing in her honour.

It was a very nice gesture. Australia's Circulating commems in 2002 included the year of the outback NZ issued all their coins in 2002 Only missing the dollar in this shot. More exotic coin - Moroccan 5 Dinars! And the 10 Dinars!

In 2002 the UK hosted the Commonwealth Games and issued a set of four £2 coins to commemorate the event. The coins bore the same basic design but the flags by the athletes were different on each coin, to represent the four constituent countries of the UK. This is the Scottish version: There were also two commemorative £5 coins, firstly to commemorate the Queen's Golden Jubilee (50 years of reign): The other was for the death of the Queen Mother at the age of 101: The usual regular circulating coins were issued in 2001, including the penny: 2002 Two pence: 2002 Twenty pence:
