Time to wind up 87 for me. We sprung forward today, so my post timings may be a bit earlier/later than usual. Turkish inflation was a bit earlier along here now, these are 50 and 100 Lira coins. The Basic design of these retained through to the early 1990s when 5,000 Lira coins appeared. The same droll portrait of Ataturk appears on all of these coins, so no need to show it. Luxembourg 5 Francs Mexican 100 Pesos - another inflation piece, although Mexican inflation was more gradual than Turkey and only hit the thousands of Pesos. I always confused this guy with Venizelos of Greece! France 10 Francs, this large handsome piece designed in the 70s was replaced by a less pleasing bimetallic coin in 1988. I like this design more! Chinese 2 Fen - a very cheap looking aluminium piece, worth under 1 cent now!

Final post (Sunday is my care day for my ailing partner, so I can't wait for someone else to post) Yes its only 8.51pm Sat for you Americans, but its 1.51pm Sunday in New Zealand! That means on NZ standard time, day changeover is 4pm our time, now its 5pm and when you guys slip back to standard time in early November - it will be 6pm our time! 1987 was the first small Loonie dollar of Canada My example is a decent one, but not perfect. It replaced the larger Voyageur dollar from circulation, although large dollars remained in the proof sets and NCLT I believe for a while. It used the dated Machin effigy of the Queen, whilst most other British Commonwealth nations were well into the Maklouf one. Finally a 1987 US Proof set. That concludes my 1987, the next few years will be more low key. I only have US proof sets for a while now.

You are doing better than me with the set only coins in circulation. 1986 only released the Peace dollar of which I have this awful example I have a better one, but too lazy to shoot a photo of it. New Zealand released all the coins in 86 except the 10 cents and 2 cents A good group here, only missing the 50 cents. It was the first year of the Maklouf effigy in NZ coins. Also we had 2 large dollars, the standard one which showed the grey parrot or Kakapo and an extra one celebrating the Queens visit. This was the one where she was egged and nicely brushed it off saying "I would prefer my Kiwi eggs in an omelete". Looks like a 1986 cent snuck inDespite the jokes, the coin was rather meh!

Thanks for the '87 loon post Princetane. I meant to, but couldn't make it work.

You're welcome, my Canada collection is severely lacking - but I have a few bits and pieces. Here is my 1986 general selection! Once we leave the 80s, I will dial it back as I would have caught up with edition 6 (I started at 1984) Belgique/Belgie 5 Francs - bilingual pair (French and Flemish) Magyar Szorzag 10 Forint - Well into the communist era now. Hellas, 5 Drachmae - Aristophanes Nederland - 1 Guilder

Unable to post anything yesterday - was staying with friends and had such a weak signal it took ages to open a single web page... But I have some coins for 1986, starting with the UK's first base metal £2 coin: The UK £1 showed a flax plant to represent Northern Ireland. It's one of the scarcest pound coins that was actually issued for circulation - only 10,701,230 were minted, while mintage figures for 1983-5 were in the hundreds of millions: Jersey One penny: Netherlands 2.5 Guilders: France silver 100 Francs: Ireland 5 pence: Austria 5 Schillings: St Helena 25 pence commemorating the wedding of Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson: Greece 50 Drachma: Portugal 100 Escudos: Cyprus One Pound: Malta 10 cents:

Good group, I also have the UK uncirculated sets 1982 to 1987, but could not buy more as my 1986 was stained and dirty and my complaint led the dealer to banning me from his sales (That is really a great way to get and keep customers). Malta updated their coins in 1986 and reduced their size and got rid of the aluminium mils coins. These 1986 ones have the Luzzu obverse (Luzzu, Maltese fishing boat with evil eye painted on it). This changed to the shield (See my 1991 Lira) after Mintoff the socialist was finally voted out in 1987. 1 cent - Weasel? 25 cents - Flowers (Not sure of type) Parts of my 1986 set that were not stained!
