Sap Moderator Australia 16845 Posts	Posted 02/18/2009 5:43 pm "BAS" isn't an acronym or initials, it's the French word for "lower". Lower Canada was the old name for Quebec (Ontario was "Upper Canada"). It's a class of token known as a "bouquet sou"; from memory, I believe they date from the mid-1830's. The sou was roughly equal to an American cent or British halfpenny. There are dozens of different varieties and types. coinsnpaper Valued Member Canada 480 Posts	Posted 03/26/2009 05:00 am This token is the LC-40, Br. 674 type, 16 leaves in the wreath, 5 shamrocks in the bouquet, bow of the bouquet to left, and can be struck over another Canadian token. There are 10 varieties listed in Charlton, depending on the metal- this looks copper rather than brass. They are LC-40A1 copper, coarsely reeded; LC-40A2 copper, finely reeded; LC-40A3 copper, plain edge; LC-40A4 copper, thin, reeded; and LC-40A5 copper, overstruck.
