Just noticed the two "horns" poking out of the east side of the mint mark. The position & tilt of mint mark match, and also all the die polishing lines coming off the west side of the 9 and D are perfect too with copper coins. Its nice when a wheat bag has a Red high AU grade variety. Makes ID'ing so much easier.

Ok yes I see that, but would have assumed that it was just a little damage or a mini die chip. Is the thinking that the punch was turned upside down at first?

Spence, I did a rudimentary mark up of VV's 011 to show how the RPM lays. I call them "Hooks", instead of horns, sometimes one, sometimes two.

On the 1960-D RPM-023, you can see the outer loop better on that RPM:

But that is the correct number for this RPM.

Thanks MakeCents and Coop for the details.

Spence- I have searched through 1957 D enough times and flipping through the RPM pages to remember there was a potential hook in SE on this date. Thought I might see it here (though the corrosion spot made me wonder) and rechecked the sites for the die polish lines. Most of time I when I "remember" something its not a match. This was the lucky time. LOL.
