Very tough 1853 no arrows New Orleans mint coin. The diagnostics look correct. Down to the final 6 for the Seated half dime set. Not the most beautiful 1838-O, but still pretty tough.

@ElmerFlick, those are two very scarce Half Dimes. Congratulations . I particularly like the 1838-O, first Half Dime of the New Orleans mint and quite scarce. I have read the extant population of the 1838-O is estimated at 200 examples.

Thanks jbuck, Wan & Germanicvs! This has been a fun project to work on. I decided to try completing the entire Dansco album minus the 1802. I'm down to 5 Federal era coins and 3 seated. Here is my latest arrival - tougher than the price guides would suggest.

Well, I've hit a standstill and still need only 3 coins to complete my Seated half dime set. I've liked this project enough that I decided to obtain as much as possible of a Dansco album Seated dime set. I'm about 40 coins into the 121 coin set already. ElmerFlick

For your dime project, I recommend Brian Greer. He wrote the book.
As my quote below suggests, dimes aren't my favorite. But early San Francisco coinage is, and this prompted me to get an 1858-S dime. That's the extent of my dime collection.

I was able to pluck a raw 1860-S fine+/- dime off of Brian's website yesterday. ElmerFlick
