Hey all
Does anyone know of any coin dealers in southern Manitoba? I'm thinking of towns like Winkler, Morden or Altona. I'm sure there are some larger shops in Winnipeg, but thought I would ask about the southern towns.
Does anyone have a favorite Winnipeg coin shop? I'm thinking of heading there in the next few weeks so I'd appreciate any information.

matchbox..I go to gatewest coins..they have a website also.and I recently heard of another on edmonton street...not sure of the address yet have to check my e-mail.I was also wondering what small towns south of winnipeg would have coin shops.Pick up a yellow pages at any phonee booth and look for coin shops around the city...have a browse and compare prices.gatewest has 30% off alot of coins so with US conversion to Canada dollar you should be doing well!

Sorry, can't help you with out-of-town shops, but in Winnipeg, I buy from Gatewest Coins (almost anything you need), Four Corners Coin and Currency (this is the one on Edmonton Street that FrostCross mentioned- the owner Kyle Mutcher has some cool stuff for sale and is a really nice guy) and North Main Stamp and Coin (mainly for supplies because they are close to where I live). Thank you all so much! This has been a big help with lightning fast replies.
I'm looking to fill in my quarter gaps, also trying to get the new Olympic commemoratives. Other things I'm searching for are the 125 Anniversary of the Confederation series, the Alberta & Saskatchewan Anniversary coins and one annoying gap: the September 2000 Wisdom commemorative quarter in the Millenium series. My needs aren't too rare or old, so they should be easy to get.
I know that once I get in a coin shop I'll find lots that I need / want.
By the way, I'm in Grand Forks. Not too far from you.

Gentlemen,
In lieu of commenting, I am just going to self-invoke the "Bambi Rule" in regard to the dealers you mention, as I can't really endorse two out of the three mentioned.
However, regarding those two, the phrase "Shiver my timbers" does come to mind...

WpgLwr, your "Bambi Rule" comment.... please explain. Yes I'm a novice collector again so I hope I won't be taken advantage of. Has anyone ever heard of a bank (a Manitoba bank for example) in helping out a coin collector fill in collection gaps of current coins in circulation? That way you can avoid the coin shop prices. A few years ago I had a friend who worked at a Manitoba currency exchange counter who was also a coin collector that I would exchange current commemorative American coins for Canadian coins. I would trade Statehood Quarters for Canadian Millennium, and other quarters. She would dump her coins on the counter and we would spend an hour going through them. She was the one who got me started on this and she moved away now. Too bad! Ken |

Gatewest is not open on the weekends just so you know...
If you come by here it may be worth it to stop by a scotiabank and see if you can buy a canadian maple coin for spot price...I heard that scotiabank sells them although not sure if they all do but they'll point you in the right direction.
If you are looking to fill in some coins you don't have you should buy some rolls from the bank and search them and roll up the ones you don't want and bring em back.that way your paying face for them.
Today I was lucky and bought 11 nickle dollars from 69-86 and about 30 50 cent pieces right over the counter...had to drive around to a few banks before I got lucky.

RBC (Royal Bank of Canada) is the official sponsor of the 2010 Olympics. I got free coin albums from them for the 2007-2010 Olympic quarters set.
I heard you should be able to get the Olympic quarters from them as well just for asking.
Warning, Canadian banks have much different hours than American banks, typically from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM on Monday to Friday with extended hours on Thursday. So plan your trip accordingly.

Not sure too many banks are open on saturday ...If you are coming in on highway 75(heading north)The Scotiabank at killarney and pembina?Or is it kirkbridge and pembina?(can't remember)is open till I believe 3:00...bettter to arrive earlier.
Maybe someone can include a list of other banks that are open Saturday!That would help me out too!
