Always pays in the long run to buy bullion from an accredited bullion dealer, and to keep all of the buy and sell documentation.

With large gold coins, there is always the possibility that they may hide a tungsten core, which has the same density as gold, and such coins will always test genuine with XRF.

This is where bullion dealers, coin dealers and public auctioneers with the highest reputation come in.

OK to buy/sell via ebay, but slabbed is a better way to go, along with the original buy/sell documentation to be provided by the seller.

Yes, big dealers are the way to go to avoid aggravation.

We are not there yet, but in every wild gold bull market, there have been a slew of gold dealers that go kablooey. So be alert for any delays in processing, shipping, etc. And of course never let them hold anything for you.

I am not crazy about slabbed coins or coins and bars in those sealed assay cards. You can't ping the coin or verify weight or measurements easily.

So I've noticed that ebay will usually cancel an obvious fake coin auction before it ends.
But sometimes like with the above replica coin, ebay will let the auction finish and then cancel it before the transaction can be completed with the buyer.

This one took a little more time to look over but it is fake.

This one had no designer initials below date and one of the easier parts to check over carefully are the details of the olive branch. The fake olive branch doesn't extend far enough into the stars.

Just came across this fake AGE while perusing ebay. You'll see a lot more of these going forward.

This is an easy one.

(Hint: Obverse 2 o'clock detail)

Thanks Hondo!

I usually first check out the branch detail but your side by side shows two easier checks. On the fake, the rays on the right don't extend past the date and on the left the rays don't make it into the stars.

Current bid is US $3,105.00. Have those people never seen one of these before?
