This example of the 1898 Trans-Mississippi Exposition Official Medal was struck in brass and is listed as HK-283 in the Hibler-Kappen reference on So-Called Dollars. This official medal was produced by the U.S. Mint in Philadelphia by assistant George Morgan, who is attributed with creating the portrait image Anna Williams. The reverse image is by Thomas Rogers Kimball, an architect. Report this Post to the Staff

A distinct medal was struck for Floral Day - it has an inscription-only reverse attesting to its purpose - "SOUVENIR / FLORAL DAY / AUGUST 5TH / 1898". Your medal is an example of the Official Medal that was available throughout the Exposition's run. I enjoy collecting these US Mint pieces, and have posted about this one in the past here on CCF.
