I recently obtained this 5 yuan note of 1942 with some unusual overprints: a French attache's seal and related markings.
These are of the Air Attache (a diplomatic post held by an air-force officer) of the French Embassy to China at Chongqing. The date stamped is for October 19 1945, so not long after the war ended and around the period when there were US led talks taking place between the Nationalists and the Communists to prevent civil war.
I've seen one of these French seals on an envelope but not sure what the purpose of this is here? Probably commemorative?
