Agree with both posts above. The earliest of classic coins are becoming challenging to acquire and most of them have mintages well below sought after coins like the 09 S Indian, 1877 Indian, 09 S VDB Lincoln, and 16D Dime. When you consider the mintages and even the estimated survival population of those key date coins and compare those figures to early cents, Half Cents and many draped bust coins, you will realize just how tough and undervalued many of those early coins are. I am developing a passion for the braided hair Half Cents lately because of the low mintages and I can only dream about draped bust silver coins.

Well, I was In to Marketing years back, I have a hunch that the Wong quarter will be In demand. Marketing, advertising, psychology, economics. All usefull sciences . I'm just saying theres an overwhelming market for shiny coins with Chinese on them Chinese culture, dictates they should own this coin, 1 because its shiny,2 because it is familiar culturaly . A tradition. Superstion, luck, chance, fate. Charms.

@CarrsCoins I agree and would like to emphasize that the trendy coins are definitely not the ones that I don't own yet.

I'd have to say early (pre-1925) Standing Liberty quarters.

Why would you care about "trendy" coins unless you're looking to buy low and sell high?
I collect the coins that interest me - i's not a business but a hobby.
Inordinately fascinated by bits of metal with strange markings and figures

I have collected coins since I was a boy in the eighties, and there have been times when I've sold some. Good question as to why, after recently hearing about the overwhelming increase in values and demand in Morgans it made me think to as what is "cheap" now and that will increase in value. I do this because I love coins and the history that comes with them. As I told my girlfriend recently, if you want to see me at my happiest, take me to a coin shop. I'm interested in seeing what other people like and being more open to things I may not have been otherwise.

The coins I only have one of but really admire are the large cents. Especially the Braided Hair cents.

I agree 1700's coins are scarce where in the 1990's they were in every coin shop worn old specimens for hundreds even thousands of dollars but at least available. Like flowing Hairs and continental currency but probably fake because those are both rare! What about 1800's Large cents early and ones with full stars later even though the grading standard doesn't call for them anymore.

Maybe, just maybe Barber coins will tick up in popularity? My favorite is the quarter.

I only buy Large cents with full stars because I got alot of culls for 1.99lb from a coin shop and I couldn't possibly do anything with them some are dateless some have the date but are smooth and only show faint details poor at best grades theirs like 8 pages of 20 coins each but who would ever collect junk like that? That's why I stick to full stars on braided hairs and full hair on flowing hairs but I usually pay 200-300 dollars a piece per specimen Knowing they won't grade any higher for those details but its what I require rather then focusing on how red a coin is or how much luster. I Love me a flying eagle though with full feathers and details. I could careless if its cleaned but never clean a coin. I can't stand original condition F12's and G4s got too many of those I would rather have au corroded coins or MS60+.

@pidgeonman - a lot of the varieties of large cents had dies aligned in a way that caused the stars to never be fully struck. it is not possible to complete a set of large cent varieties and have every coin have fully struck stars. in my opinion planchet quality and surface preservation are quite a bit more important to large cents than being well struck from properly aligned dies.

my experience has been that the 1700s coins are a lot easier to find today than they were in the 90s. pre ebay we were at the mercy of the coin shops in town. if I wanted a chain cent I might have one or two to choose from in my whole city. there are 20 chain cents on ebay right now.

If it's trendy coins I agree ancient Japanese coins and Chinese dynasty coins are cool but the dealer of the real antiques ran into a couple of fakes and discontinued his efforts after one customer complained even though he has an open door refund policy if it's fake this guy really know his antiques what a shame.

If it's Large cents you think will go up in price buy a 1857 large cent Proof either small date or large date and an 1794 in ms60+ but that's to much money for my taste. I will stick to the high mintage coins with full details. I personally think the 1794 is to ugly an obverse I like the 1800's obverses black with corrosion but with flowing beautiful hair. I avoid 1800's coins that look new they are expensive here like 1000 dollars a piece at the coin shop but probably fake.

I bought a chain cent once turned out to be fake! Carrscoins how is it you like old defaced Large cents with the date when they are easily obtained at flea markets around the US in dollar bins and copper piles where you buy them by weight rather than by piece. I have an 1800 but all you can read is the date and it's holed what's the attraction in that I mean wears the lady? I love my coins with stars I can try to collect them all it's pricy but more fun. If they didn't mint them with stars then I guess I will have to make an exception to fill all the dates but I highly doubt that if its a braided hair one doesn't exist with stars.
