Bare head of King Tatius to right; palm below chin, SABIN behind. Rev. Rape of the Sabine women; L•TITVRI below. Crawford 344/1b \| Babelon RSC, Tituria 2. 19.9, 3.4 grams This denarius just came in today and at first glance the color and texture was a little off to me. I bought it from a coin shop on ebay that sells many ancients, however, they do not specialize in this area. I even pulled out my Republican coinage for comparison and it looked like the odd one out. However, the more I examine the coin, I feel it more than likely is genuine. It appears to be struck (raised surface and clean legend)and there are no signs of a seam on the edge. Although a tad bit light, the weight is OK. I am leaning toward possible signs of crystallization and/or brittleness. There is a piece of the edge that is slightly chipped away which kinda reveals this. Any thoughts and also if anyone recognizes the original dealer from the flip, please let me know.
