Did Block Letters Ever Flip Positions?

A couple of related questions. 1) Did the federal reserve letter and the production sequence letter flip positions? 2) If so, when and why 3) Did it flip for all denominations? 4) Is there a formal name for the left letter and the right letter? thanks for any info. SteveInTampa Pillar of the Community United States 4637 Posts	Posted 12/23/2022 1:05 pm You're comparing a Silver Certificate and a Federal Reserve Note. The prefix letter on the FRN is the district letter and limited to letters A through L. The prefix letter on the SC is random and advances alphabetically through the entire alphabet. Blocks are referenced by prefix and suffix letters. The SC is a Q-A block and the FRN is a L-Q block.
