Your Barbers are fantastic! Especially, compared to what I saw today. "Fine" Barbers are rare in my neck-of-the-woods! Bummer!

My two latest acquisitions. 1913 - Which I had posted in the grading forum. Bought raw.  1897-O - PCGS F12 - This will be the most expensive coin I have cracked out. Will be a bit nerve-racking.

I picked this 1909 up a few weeks ago. It came in a PCGS slab. The reverse had a raised orange spot on the shield. I soaked it in acetone for a few hours and the orange spot dissolved.  Before acetone:  After:

I'm just starting on the same journey. After reading about the need to crack out fine condition barbers I think I'll go a different route. While I love coin albums I can't bring myself to cracking out certified coins. I think I will buy slabs for my raw coins and put in a three ring binder on lighthouse pages. It won't look as nice as an album though.

Quote: After reading about the need to crack out fine condition barbers I think I'll go a different route You can definitely find raw examples, especially of the common dates, it will most likely just take a lot longer. ebay is full of lots of raw cleaned and lower grade ones. An occasional F-VF does pop up in decent condition, but I have just found the selling price usually isn't much lower than a certified example. LCS and shows are another great way, and I am all for getting them raw there, I personally have just had trouble finding them in the condition I want.
