Should I just end this contest without a winner? I find these types of contests very fun and challenging, but if this is not the type of thing folks on this forum enjoy, then I will try to think of a different, easier kind of contest.

I think for those of us that have not done this type of thing before you may have started off with a bit of a difficult one.
I have been searching through a lot of information on ciphers and so on and have not come across any that had symbols and numbers in addition to letters. Even the wikipedia site you referred us to does not say anything about that so I do not know if that is where I am going wrong.
The clue Mercury Model didn't mean anything to me and a search revealed nothing to do with ciphers either so I am a bit stumped at the moment. I think my table may be wrong but I cannot figure out why. Keep the clues coming someone should get it eventually.

I agree, keep the clues coming. I may have one word solved, based on the clues provided. Perhaps a clue related to the symbols would be helpful, because that's where I'm stumped, and seems like others are too.

It is tough. Did you type it in and use a security scrambler thing to make new letters? It doesn't make any sense!!
Don't end it, keep the clues coming! It's a fun brain teaser!

Maybe some help here - Maybe not :) If ZEPHYR has nothing to do with the Key, maybe is has to do with the ZEPHYR code ? I'm not into programing etc. so ?

I got it. Zephyr= the code word. Mercury cars had a Zephyr model. Answer to the cipher: Money itself must be a scarce good. Many items have been used as money, from naturally scare precious metals and conch shells through cigarettes to entirely artificial money such as banknotes. Modern money is essentially a token, an abstraction. Paper currency is perhaps the most common type of physical money today. However, goods such as gold or silver retain many of the essential properties of money.

Here's part of how I figured it out:
Cipher: N!cda jg7l&t ff78 gu r ... Codeword: ZEPHY RZEPHY RZEP HY R Answer: Money itself must be a
The symbols I just guessed based on the rest of the word and then was able to use the symbols for other parts of the cipher.

Well done!
I had 6 columns very early on and then I had zephyr from the breeze clue, I even figured the first word was money, but it just didn't work in my table. And I couldn't make it work.
What did your vigenere table look like?

CONGRATULATIONS MYCROB, email me your address and you will have one silver bullion round heading your way this week. Sorry the price of silver is in a nose dive, but isn't that the way of "money!" I figured today's clues would bring an answer. I actually had my first experience with a Vigener Cipher doing GEOCACHING. Some Geocachers would list their caches in a Vigenere Cipher and you had to figure it out so you could find it. Here is the last one I did: http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cach...e69e5b75e739Although I live in Colorado, my uncle lives in Oregon and asked me to figure this one out for him. The hard part of that one was using a space as one of the characters and not knowing the keyword, but I finally figured it out, the keyword was "vigenere", LOL. One way to start figuring my cipher out was that the first word and last word were the same. Therefore, the first letter of both words would be on the SAME row, the second letters would be on the same row, etc... Then you can start assembling the cipher box. I will do another one for my 500th post, but it will not be a vigenere cipher, it will be another type. I hope everyone had fun! I sure had fun doing it, it took me 4 hours just to put it together.

Explain that again about the first letters being on the same row etc?
Since the first word was N!CDA this was under ZEPHY columns but I had MDMAQ under YRZEP columns giving you the same word?
How do you use rows?
I also still am not sure how the numbers and symbols work, they still don't work in my table? Doesn't sound like they worked in mycrobs either?
So now it is over what order after A - Z did you have the numbers and symbols in?
This was a lot of fun! I look forward to the next one.
