Bought this coin as "uncirculated." What do you guys think it would grade? I know the pictures aren't great, but I just can't squeeze any more out of my camera, I don't think.

I see some wear on the cheek, beard, and temple by the ear. Also some wear on the lines of the wheat stalks. I think this would grade AU-55. A very nice coin.

I paid $20... does that sound like a fair price?

also, is there any chance that the wear you see is just an illusion created by the woodgrain/my not great photos? I only ask because in hand, I don't see any traces of wear... but I am also a novice when it comes to grading.

Numismedia puts this coin at $15.60. I also agree with the AU55 grade.

It may get to MS-60.

Can't really tell by the pics.

After a second look, it may grade MS. Without the coin in hand, that would be a guess. Great looking coin nonetheless

Thad,

What do you mean by no woodgraining?

Please teach me, what keeps this coin from grading higher than MS-63? Is that something that cannot be determined from the quality of these photographs, or is it something else?

Thanks!

I see no woodgraining on this coin. Have a look at this album and tell if you think your coins looks like any of these:

http://www.cointalk.com/forum/membe...s/albums/10/

This coin might slide to a 64. My grade is about as close (and conservative) as I can get with the supplied pictures.

best I can do to photo what I'm referring to as woodgrain
Woodgrain-1909-VDB

the obverse doesn't show it nearly as much, but there is some streaking evident.

thoughts?
