The coins will be available in your change when paying with cash. On Page 9 of the September Stamp Bulletin it says "pay with cash for your change to score a collectable coin in your change at participating Post Offices".

I'll have to make a few visits to my local PO over the coming weeks!

As usual, sets already sold on ebay before official release. Will this ever stop?

Has anyone here bought a set from Australia Post and scored a colored coin in the tube? Plenty of colored coins were being sold on ebay in the week before the official release - wonder how many were pilfered? Interesting to see a RAM-authorised dealer selling them too. I noticed they were not claiming there would be a 1 in 10 chance finding a colored coin. I would love to know how the ebay sellers are getting their hands on the coins to sell prior to release and how they identify the tube with the colored coins in it. It seems to be the same sellers each release so they must have a system. Anyone know or have any ideas?

Hi Coaster, yes, Australia Post are claiming there is a 1 in 10 chance of finding a colored coin (but that cannot really be correct given the number of colored coins sold on ebay PRIOR to official release date). The RAM-authorised dealer is not making the same claim. At least they seem to be honest and maintaining their reputation. The RAM and Australia Post (and Woolies for that matter) don't seem to care. I wonder what will happen at the next release of wallpaper coins?

RAM must have been inspired by Pokemon - release more and hook collectors onto 'gotta get 'em all' !
I wonder what the next series be...
Floral? Animals? Nature parks? Endangered species?

gxseries,et al,
the next $1 coin(s) could feature " water has been discovered to be wet " or possibly " stars usually appear at night "........or " mud gets on your shoes when you walk in it " Seriously, I've been collecting for nearly 60 years starting as a paperboy in St.Kilda, Vic, from the early 60's by collecting pennies, halfpennies ( I couldn't afford to save too many silver coins from what I got paid per newspaper I sold or my tips ) and now I've come to realise that too many previously passionate collectors have been walking away shaking their heads at the RAM's seemingly endless issuing of $1 and $2 coins.
I've enjoyed my decimal coins collecting journey very much until now - chasing after the very scarce mint set only coins eg : the 2004 pointy "A's 50c ( only just over 30,000 of these exist ) plus quite a few other Genuinely very low mintage coins ( are you able to read this RAM with your 1992 $1 Mob of Roos mintage claim } which some collestors aren't, as yet, aware of.
Any suggestions as to why I should continue pursuing my passion would be welcomed.

Hi Squaremealroundplate, I share your frustration with the seemingly endless release of junk coins that are just designed to bleed money out of collectors. If recent media reports can be believed (and I am sceptical) we are heading towards becoming a cashless society. If that is the case it might be worth continuing to collect circulating coins for the sake of the value of a complete collection?
If we do go cashless then circulating coins would become a thing of the past and should go up in value as collectors items. No doubt the RAM would continue to mint junk coins hoping to sell to collectors. Or we could take up collecting socks, pencils, kids soft toys and even tea diffusers that the RAM offer in their catalogue. (I would love to know how many tea diffusers they sell and why anyone would bother buying one from RAM). Anyway I hope you can still find pleasure and satisfaction in collecting. Good luck and happy noodling.

thanks for your welcomed comprehensive and accurate overview of the plight we seriously passionate coin collectors have been gradually confronted with.
It's not so much a frustration with me as it seems to be a growing concern for many many others, but more a disappointment at the RAM's belief that they HAVE to keep producing far too many collectors' bull's fodder.
A cashless society ? Yes, it's here already so welcome to the future !
Yes,as you know, they have to produce a massive oversupply of mostly irrelevant $1 and $2 coins because they cost much less to produce per face value which ensures their bottom line is making a (on paper only ) profit and then annually dish out $millions to the Fed Gov. What about all the millions of unsold $1, $2 and other coins which are " hidden " in long term storage ?
My enjoyment with collecting all decimal coins is/was ...buy multiple RAM unc sets every year because generally one/two of the coins in the set ( there weren't any 20c coins issued into circulation from 1983 to 1993 and 1995 ) but as an example ( I don't mean to be long so winded ) the 2007 mint set had the Life Saver 20c which is a mint set only coin ( the 2007 $1 is also a mint set only coin ). To get the standard 20c platypus in premuim condition I bought a few of the 2007 Baby Mint sets which have a much better finish on them then even those produced in the standard annual RAM uncirculated mint sets.. This chasing of varieties I enjoyed. Then there was the fabulous satin type finish on the 2007 Wedding set which I had to buy ( I must confess mainly for the 50c - the ultra premium satin like finish of all the coins within the 2002 to 2009 Wedding sets are really something very special and only around 3000 of each years' sets were produced. Absolutely top class premium ) Buy these for the two grandsons and I for me.
My dilemma : In the early 2000's I only had two grandsons to make up complete Ch UNC sets for ; Hmm not that hard at the time. A bit of a costly yet very enjoyable journey. I now have FIVE grandsons......imagine the full cost if I continued to make up complete Ch UNC sets - from 1966 to..........geez ... 2023...?
Can anyone offer a solution ? Only buy the RAM's standard annual UNC sets to give?
thanks in advance..

Well squaremealroundplate, the wedding sets from 2002-2009 are a totally different coin to a standard uncirculated set coin. The yearly UNC sets are Choice UNC. Or they should be. Quote: Can anyone offer a solution ? Only buy the RAM's standard annual UNC sets to give? Think you have the answer already, maybe only $1,000 or so for 1966-2023? x3?

RAM Silver is best purchased 2nd hand as the new Coin releases premium is just not viable in the long(&short) run.

I wonder if the coloured coins are of each big thing or one particular big thing.
