Panzaldi, not by my hand :-) Spent years testing on worthless silver until I felt comfortable working it on potential value pieces. No abrasives just oil, vibration, Acetone, and a lot of patience. I'll probably work on this piece for a month or so. These photos are after one more round - I tried to get the lighting to match exactly (background). Obverse fields and the rear foot cleared a bit, just need to be in it for the long haul.

I do find it interesting that the right field seems to have 'lost' some of it's micro scratches. Now I have to wonder if it has something to do with the way the sound waves move thru the solution and attack the foreign matter.

its good to hear you didnt cause those. those were the only 2 options really. being in the ground rubbing against abrasive dirt and fine stone was probably the culprit here. still a cool find and it did clean up well.

You did a good job saving this one. But I think it will still be an EF-40 details, cleaned.

I wonder what this one ended up grading as. Personally I think the dark shadows on the reverse around UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and the marks on the obverse still scream dug coin to me.

Hordfest - never sent it in. Put it in a capsule and filed away.

However, update with additional work and a big shout-out to BadThad for VC. Little soak in VC as a final step made a WORLD of difference in my opinion. Here are finals before being capsuled.

great conservation work on this one. I think a TPG would still detail the coin so putting in a holder and call it a day was the best option.

P...exactly why I ask you folks. Everyone with an opinion called it DETAILS and I fully trust that. Why waste a coupon - pretty coin and a great add to my collection in a capsule.

to an untrained eye I doubt they would pick up that the coin would detail. there are all kinds of hairlines on the obv that a TPG would catch. it doesn't even look like the same coin so kudo's to you
