Hello to all the metal detector folks out there. I'm having difficulty finding or deciding what kind of metal detector I should purchase. First, I would like to keep the cost low, but a gifted free one if I can locate one would be thrilling. I've seen them before. Anyway, I likento find one that is most defiantly water proof for small creeks/water edge/in inclimate weather, that will locate all items not solely gold, digital screen maybe, and has a arm rest as I have some physical issues. Can anyone recommend one for me? I would deeply appreciate it. Oh, I plan on traveling next year should something come through, and I would also like to know if you can travel on airlines with them carry-on or check-; and donthey have travel cases like they make for fishing rods?

Sorry this is so long, thank you in advance for any help.

While it's been eons since I used them, I have a Teknetics and a Bounty Hunter. I know that Garrett makes some nice one's too.

You'll be looking somewhere in the $250 to $400 range or more. They all have the much needed arm rests.

You should also buy yourself a pointer. You can find those for around $30. I have one of the less pricey Garrett's.

There is the initial start-up costs but, the "finds" can be exciting.

We plan on taking them out this Summer. I don't know about the airlines. I think you should check with the airlines and maybe TSA to see if you can take one on an aircraft.

Have fun Reno!

The airlines won't be until next year. I'd like to join a active open hunting group in the UK maybe.

Are there traveling hard cases for the detectors. I have a tube cade for the airlines fir my fishing rods. Can't carry on must check in for its big but keeps them safe
My rod case won't store a detector.

I saw different types of travel cases on-line. Whatever you get, I would add bubble-wrap around the detector for added padding. That is IF the particular case doesn't have a foam/formed liner.

If you have the budget the Minelab Equinox 900 is the best on the market for the spend. It is realtively new replacing Minelab's prior 800 (the best on the market at the time IMO). Might be able to get an 800 at a steep discount.

Airlines don't care, just took mine on a trip a few weeks ago. Friend took his to Africa via the UK and Germany so international is good too. Pinpointers are no problem but no shovels or digging tools.
