Very interesting and it goes to show you about doing the right thing. But unfortunately that for the most part is not the world we currently live in

That is pretty cool. Here are the bits that were most interesting me: Quote: Among the dozens of coins recovered by the police were two extremely rare examples of two-headed coins bearing images of both Alfred and Ceolwulf.
"The coins show beyond any possible doubt that there was a political and economic alliance between Alfred and Ceolwulf II," he said.
"Together the two kings carried out a major reform of the coinage, introducing high-quality silver coins, with the 'two emperors' design symbolising this alliance, followed by a second joint coinage. I wish they had showed a picture of the dual-portraits though.

Thx for sharing this Kipster. The history part is fascinating, but I'm also intrigued by the massive investigation that was undertaken. Would be curious to know what the sentences were for the wayward 'detectorists'.

Quote: I wish they had showed a picture of the dual-portraits though. The opening pic (at the top of the article) shows a coin in the name of Alfred, and a coin in the name of Ceolwulf. Those could easily be two sides of the same coin; I can't quite tell for sure one way or another.

Where are the other 200+ coins from the hoard?
Inordinately fascinated by bits of metal with strange markings and figures

That is a great point @j1m. I had assumed that one side of the coin can conjoined portraits, but having now read the article a bit more slowly, it might be that the obv has one king while the rev has the other one.

A very interesting read. I wonder how many other important pieces of history are being illegally held?

Well the Judge saying this:
--->"Judge James Adkin said their offending was aggravated by their plan to sell the coins abroad, saying: "Had they left this country, they would have been likely to be lost to this nation for ever.""<---
Good thing the UK does not have any treasures that are lost to other countries in their museums and returned them all. Has Judge James Adkin ever written a letter to the British Museum to return the Rosetta Stone to Egypt?
