NGC - Coin of the Day: Happy Halloween! Here's a spooky Germany Karl Goetz Iron Medal dated 1915. The obverse shows Sir Edward Grey, the Foreign Secretary of Great Britain, Germany's World War I nemesis, which had just established a protectorate over Egypt. The reverse contains the German words for Egypt Awake.

Germans even in the first Great War had a morbid liking for depicting skeletons as part of wishing death on their adversaries. Search for the Verdun die weltblutpumpe medal for a worse one.
