I recently purchased a 1923 10 Billion Mark German banknote with the serial number 00588* imprinted upon it. I now see that the seller is still selling the same banknote with the same serial number on it.
Also, I notice that another seller is selling the same banknote with the same serial number.
I would have expected the serial number on such notes to be 'unique'. Can someone please explain this to me.Can someone please explain this to me?

Hi there- I would expect this to be stock scan that possibly 2 different people/sellers are using. The piece is notgeld. They usually, as you say on the other post, have different serial numbers.
Make sure or ask the seller if it is a copy!

I highly doubt the note is a copy since a good copy can be more expensive to produce than just buying these hyperinflation notes in quantity. They were cheaply produced & never gained much value.

Also, many sellers use just 1 stock photo & that will be the reason you see the same serial number. Typically, they state on the listing not to expect the same serial number (or that "we use stock photos" /or "photo is for reference purpose only")

As always with notgeld, there are anomalies:

Both sellers have confirmed that they are using 'stock' photos and they are both using the same one. Thank you.

Super - as thought then.
Just lately, I have had 2 pieces that were just photo copies on old quality paper. Why people do that is beyond me. Glad your query has a good outcome.
