2002- P Louisiana State Quarter Error? (Letters Q & U, T & E Touching)

malee2 New Member United States 3 Posts	Posted 08/10/2023 04:34 am Hello! I'm new to coin collecting and am currently looking at the 2002-P Louisiana State Quarter. I noticed that the spacing between the letters Q/U and T/E seems to be closer to each other than the other letters. Could this be some sort of error? And if so, under what category would it be? Thank you! The first two photos are of my coin and the last photo is a photo I found with regular spacing. Report this Post to the Staff

Spence Moderator United States 34455 Posts	Posted 08/10/2023 06:29 am @mal, first welcome to CCF. Second, you are right that some of the letters in QUARTER appear closer to gather in the first coin. However, rather than being a mint error, it looks to me like these letters have been flattened during circulation and therefore are a bit broader than they were when they left the mint.
