Switzerland 1 Franc 1982: Many people think Swiss half-, one- and two-franc coins haven't changed since the 1870s apart from the switch from silver to cupro-nickel in 1968. But there have been a couple of subtle changes. In 1982 the number of stars on the obverse was changed from 22 to 23 to mark the admission of Jura as the country's 23rd Canton (it had previously been part of the Canton of Berne). Then, from 1983, for no apparent reason, these three denominations changed from coin to medal alignment - i.e. the obverse and reverse were now the same way up, whereas previously the obverse had been upside-down in relation to the reverse, as on US coins. The 1982 half-, one- and two-franc coins are one-year-types, as they are struck in coin alignment BUT have 23 stars on the obverse!
