I have always said that as more old collections come out of the woodwork, that some high-grade examples of scarce varieties would appear. This coin is certainly an example of that. 1882-H TDO.

These are just the crappy photos from my cellphone just after I bought it. I will eventually get around to taking decent photos of this very nice coin.

Yep, I saw the "Regina" on the full-Obv photo. Is there any in Gratia or Canada or Victoria?

Trebled around the clock, just less offset on the lefthand obverse legends. Even the truncation is trebled.

The coin literally found me. The dealer who owned it showed me the coin and asked what he had and what it was worth. I told him what it was and what I honestly thought it was worth in Canadian dollars. I then offered that amount in US dollars to seal the deal. Both of us walked away happy, the way coin deals should be.

Thanks, guys. This variety, although not really as well known and as popular as the ones in the catalogues, is quite scarce. In fact, it is harder to find than almost all of the varieties that large cent collectors know and chase. Plus, it's tripling is very visible and spectacular. Happy to own it.

I hope to someday cross it at PCGS, probably at 64RB, but that does not matter. It is a white elephant, an MS-64 of a variety otherwise unknown above EF. Not to say another could not appear.......

I used to love looking at all the anomalies in the '81's and '82' through my microscope. They were a never-ending cornucopia of oddities that were great to look at. I have a couple of my own, but I could never even touch the grades that you find and acquire. I love the story ... it's like the coin had legs and followed you around.

Did you ever get any nice photos of this coin? I would love to see the details in the hair and crown.

This coin is the subject of an upcoming article in the December CN Journal, including hi-res photos. Should be out in three weeks or so. It is a pretty amazing cent.
