I'm retiring from acquiring! Please note my new temporary signature below...Good Stuff for collectors of 19th-century British and Canadian colonial exonumia.
Meanwhile, for the last 400 years or so, the heraldic badge of the heir to the British throne has been the The Prince of Wales's plumes, three white ostrich feathers encircled by a gold coronet. Often used as an emblem of Wales itself, these feathers are seen on many of the tokens issued during the kingdom's "Regency Period," 1810-1820, when King George III was sidelined while dealing with some serious personal and medical/psychological issues.
The Wales plume appeared most recently on the British two pence coin (1971-2008), which is still encountered in circulation. Of the fourteen different varieties known, I've managed to collect nine of this one-penny token from Bristol in Somerset. This example is Withers 518, Davis 87 (35mm, 17.3g, R).
