I recently posted that I feel like PCGS is giving out "details" on coins a little too much here lately when I was upset at one of the coins I thought was going to grade better than what I had bought for. Well, I finally got it back in the mail and the details was "repaired" instead of the original "damaged" listed on my PCGS account before shipping. I will post the True View photos here again. I can't get any answer from PCGS about what exactly is repaired on this coin and I've talked to a couple of dealers who looked at it and they can't seem to be able to tell me what appears repaired on it?!? Anyone ever get answers from PCGS after they get coins graded on what the grader was seeing to give the coin its designation? Can any of you tell what looks repaired here?

Was a damaged spot repaired on Liberty's left chest?

Usually that means a plugged hole. I don't know if I've ever read someone saying that PCGS told them what the grader saw. In this case, perhaps the grader writes a number on something by hand and it got misinterpreted by a data entry person? Under code 98 number 8 is "Repaired (including plugged holes)" and number 3 is "Spot(s) removed (leaving some form of damage that is evident)". https://www.pcgs.com/grades#grade98 I sure don't see any plugged hole, but I do see a lot of harsh scratches that maybe were from removing spots, and then someone confused a 3 for an 8? Pure speculation on my part. Can you post a link to the TrueView? Maybe a better resolution original image would help.

Perhaps you should look at the third side, the edge. Some of these were used in jewelry and may have a spot where a mount was soldered on at one time.

Agree, Liberty's right (facing) breast does look odd in these pics.

Here's TrueView link: https://www.pcgs.com/cert/47324952"Perhaps you should look at the third side, the edge" That's one of the reasons I'm trying to get a clarification as I can't look at edge now that it's slabbed!

Could be whizzed or smoothed looks like there may have been some work done to cover up graffiti on the reverse then polished with a fine brass wire brush possibly?

I was thinking that: old vandalism/graffiti that had been smoothed down. Both the obverse and reverse show signs in those pictures of possible graffiti removal.

This coin looks like it was wizzed. The wizzing most likely removed the damaged, hence it's repaired. Again like the cleaned coins posted before, this coin would details so why submit it for grading?

I wouldn't be surprised if this is really the case, considering how badly people write after graduation. Quote: Agree, Liberty's right (facing) breast does look odd in these pics. The breasts really look suspicious. But also the whole field of the coin looks like it has undergone a hard cleaning. Quote: Again like the cleaned coins posted before, this coin would details so why submit it for grading? Some coins are worth pretty good money even being priced as "detsils". The trading dollar is not the cheapest coin. Unfortunately I still don't have one in my collection.
