second look using the new photos. I think all the marks in front of the profile a clashes. I'm still at MS64

Here's an update on the Barber quarter I sent to PCGS a few months ago. I'm disappointed with this one. There are some bag marks on the cheek, but virtually all the rest of the marks in the fields are either clashes or die cracks, and the coin has excellent luster. I'm wondering if the coin was penalized for the extensive clashing, which theoretically shouldn't affect the grade.   |

I would have been at 63. I have never seen such strong clashing on a barber. Still a fantastic coin

Hope they didn't knock the grade for all the clash marks.

Interesting die cracks on both sides too, maybe from the clashing? I suppose they knocked it for the light scratch across the cheek. Could be they mistook the clash marks as well - they spend about 30 seconds looking at a coin then on to the next one.

I love the shield clash inside the ear! Just lovely! I think this is totally under graded.

It was over dipped imho.
Not to the point of complete Luster loss, but noticeable nonetheless.

I'm wondering if the coin was penalized for the extensive clashing, which theoretically shouldn't affect the grade. these items are my pet peeve where the graders just gloss over the coin and really don't look at the coin and whats happening. imo, anything that occurred at the mint should not affect grade but could affect value. things like, clashing, Cuds, die cracks and strike issues to a certain extent etc...this is why I despise slabbing was the coin dipped? probably. was it overdone? no, so I don't see this as the issue. was it the clashing? not sure but if they took that as a scratch instead of a clash then it would have been assigned a details designation so I'm not sure what the heck they nailed it for. |

there are some scratches in front of the nose, on the cheek and neck. are they enough to warrant a 62 grade? not in my opinion. like I stated, was it dipped? probably. was it over dipped, absolutely not. lighting/glare is an issue with your photos which may be enhancing what appears to be luster. when I look a the slab photo of the obv their does appear to be broken luster across the profile. I can see it at 63 but they were are little harsh with that grade  |

Those marks in front of the nose are clash marks from the arrows on the reverse. My guess is they may have mistaken them for bag marks. It's a shame, but I'm not going to waste more money resubmitting it.
