$1,985. Thoughts? Thanks! Initially I thought this was a first year of issue coin with a lot of eye appeal. Then I noticed, looking at the obverse shield, that this might be a scarce variety. Went onto the site run by Dick Osburn and Brian Cushing and was able to attribute this coin as OC-2 which has a rarity of R4+ with an estimated 100 survivors in all grades. I was able to attribute this coin using the obverse date placement that is unique to the OC-2 die pair. This variety is also #1 in the top 30 Seated dollar varieties list http://www.seateddollarvarieties.com/Top-30.shtml) with repunched stars which I could not see from the pictures but hope to see when the coin is in hand. The site is a treasure trove of information and I learned that there were 4 business strike die pairs for the initial year of issuance of 61,005 liberty Seated dollars. By far the most common die pair is OC-1 which are estimated to have 1,250 survivors. OC-3 is R3 with 375 estimated survivors and OC-4 is R6, the rarest of the business strikes with just 25 estimated survivors. Attribution and my learning is thanks to the excellent work of Dick Osburn and Brian Cushing putting their attribution reference for all to use freely on the internet. Thank you gentlemen! What a beauty! A wild guess from these photos, MS-62.

I don't quite think this coin is Uncirculated but it's really, really close. Slider AU/MS. Show me an AU58 holder or a MS62 holder and I'd be okay with either option. It's a really attractive coin and a very scarce coin. I'd also imagine at least based off these photos that it may have had a cleaning some years ago and has since developed album or holder retoning, but that affects neither eye appeal nor market value as far as I'm concerned. I have a Liberty Seated quarter that also retoned beautifully around the edges in a manner similar to this one - it's in a PCGS AU50 holder, but it looks much closer to AU55-AU58 in hand.

Concurring with paralyse here: AU58; possible old cleaning and retone.
I think the price was right given the possible cleaning, and this is absolutely too nice of a coin to pass up. You did well here. Congratulations!

Nice coin but I am dropping to AU-58. Looks like rub on the high points.

One of the things that could not be seen in the original pictures were the repunched stars in the 3 uppermost stars in the top left point. My in hand pictures were able to capture that. From the Osburn-Cushing reference:

Certainly better photos. Still an AU details coin IMO. This coin was sold via ebay by greatsouthercoin for $2025. It was advertised as Nice Choice AU ++. If the coin was actually as advertised it would already be in a P58 or N58 slab with the possibility of a CAC green bean. Greatsoutherncoin is a prolific seller of coins on ebay over the last dozen years or so with 240,000+ sales. They are not going to leave $2,000 - $4,000+ on the table by not having the coin certified. Although the die attribution is interesting it does not add any value to the coin that I am aware of. If you have a go to guy or a mentor I think it would be worthwhile to have another set of eyes for an in hand inspection. Good luck.
