I'm a bit surprised by all the comments about cleaning. I see the obverse hairlines but they look very faint and IMO should not dictate a problem coin. Detail looks Unc but the minor friction and luster impairment suggests AU-58.
Overall eye appeal seems pretty good.

I've seen PCGS detail coins with hairlines that I couldn't see unless I was using a loupe. I'm a little surprised that PCGS chose the net grading route. I thought that was ANACS's ball of wax and the 2 leading tpgs stayed away from that.

I'm late here but it looks like they net graded an unc coin because of the obverse wipe. Still looks quite nice and was probably a bargin.

i agree with several of the others regarding a net grade on this one. MS60 is a strange grade for this coin

Here's another one, in an OGH. https://coins.ha.com/itm/barber-hal...bnail-071515 They think it's uncirculated, but from there it's anybody's guess. Sometimes how the TPGs grade coins is almost as interesting as the coins. Almost.

Not always true. With earlier material that circulated heavily, usually barbers and earlier, low mint state grades likely mean light rub on the high points. An MS-61 bust half will not be bag marked, but it will have light circulation. Clearly there is light rub on the high points, showing that the grader thought it deserved an uncirculated grade, but netted the coin due to the circulation. I have seen this many times on lower denomination Barber coins.

I see what people call a "wipe" as an effect of the photography and will not be outstanding in hand. I would grade this piece an AU-58+.

On one hand, I tend to ignore TPG's opinions.
On the other, I also think, that on average, they are reasonably close to the mark, - most of the time.

But not always.

That is why I prefer to grade for myself,
despite the fact that sometimes, that I may be less accurate than the TPG's.
At least, I save grading fees and shipping costs.
