What I'm seeing on Abe's head looks like some sort of cross hatching- may due to a strike through of some kind. I don't know know- I need different eyes to look at this. Also maybe some doubling on the motto. Any ideas?

Can you show a pic of the entire obverse? I believe it is a bit of an optical illusion caused by overlapping fingerprints that toned over but a full pic should show it better

Yup, those are stains - not struck into the coin. They are the ridge lines from someone's greasy fingerprint.

Yep- you're both right. I took more pics and I could not replicate what I thought I saw. The stains gave an optical illusion. Thanks for the help.
