The physical dimensions of a 1kg gold bar 'should' be to 40 mm X 80 mm X 18 mm although I would put a fudge factor of an additional 10 mm on the thickness to get an answer to my question that would cover all bases. I am concerned that there could be tungsten, for example, embedded within any gold bar. That is because of the specific gravity tungsten is virtually the same as that of gold.

There is a facility that is creating some 1000 g 24k gold bars with seemingly varying dimensions. I am looking for a non-destructive way to test the composition of these gold shapes of these dimensions. Would the following equipment be adequate to verify whether the bar is 24k or some other lower karat number? How deep from the surface of the bar could this machine reliably detect the presence of tungsten?

Here's a link to the testing equipment describing its alleged capabilities but I would like to get some opinions insofar as its reliability and repeatability concerning its test results on 24k 1kg gold bars:

In a nutshell does anyone know any machine that can penetrate down through gold over 20 to 30 mm and detect the presence of tungsten. That's all I really wanna know because if there isn't, I'll have to contact a third-party to perform a destructive assay test: definitely not my first choice.

You could try to find a precious metals company that does gold assaying. Try using an internet search like "gold assayers" or similar.

Never heard of aurotest. A popular tester dealers and collectors use is made by sigma metalytics. Their newest model is better than their first one. There's some YouTube videos showing them being used. But I don't know if their testers would work on a thick bar, you could contact them and ask. Here is their site:

I'm wondering if this post is related to your prior one about a gold bar from Ghana. I did an online search, typed in "fake gold bars, tungsten" found pics and articles about them. If you do get this gifted bar and have it tested, please let us know the results with pics and assay report.
