1909-VDB Cent Possible Buried

Recently found this 1909-VDB that appears to have been buried in some acidic soil. Strong strike but substance on the coin has appearance of sand and the surface of the coin is rough in places as it would be had it been placed in acid or possibly in salt water for a long time.
